I keep mentioning the craziness that November was. NaNoWriMo was more than just a journey of writing the minimum of 50k in 30 days. It was an event that was filled with friendship and discovery. One of the greatest discoveries that came from it was a place called The WatchTower Café in Salt Lake City Utah.
How did we find such an awesome place? Well, our writing group of course! It is the place they hold their meetings every month. Of course, we just had to check it out before then. So, we grabbed up our laptops and dragged my sister along to the geekiest café I’ve ever walked into.
The geek just overflowed everywhere. Comic books, retro games, board games galore, art and the best menu names I’ve ever witnessed. Here I was thinking I was just walking into a quirky named coffee house only to discover it was so much more. I immediately saw it as my home away from home. With the geeks and friendly personalities wandering around everywhere I felt suddenly very comfortable and happy to have been pointed in the direction of this great place.
BUT WAIT! There was more. As we went back on multiple nights we found that they had themed nights that included stand up comedy, live music, and a host of other activities that could be held in their large lobby area. While we may not have participated in all of them we still got to enjoy them from our favorite spot back.
Did I mention the escape room they added that you can try out? Yea, that’s an awesome thing.
Not to mention the great gallery of rogues up top with local artists selling their geeky themed art. Here are a few happy customers drinking up in the gallery with art behind them!
And comics that are for sale! Books, single comics. They’ve got it all!
Okay, let’s get real for a second. Customer service is great. While it is not a traditional coffee house, the baristas do their best to make you feel at home and take care of you as quick as they can with the custom drinks they mix. Here’s a couple of them as I awkwardly ask for a picture!
And the owners are amazing as well, I didn’t catch Cori but this is Tui with all his awesome wookieeness. (Never enough wookiee!) Both he and Cori have done their best to make us all feel at home.
While my pictures are not the best, you can find a lot of others of their great place on their website here. You can also follow them on their facebook here. Or if you are more a twitter person they are here.
No matter if you are just visiting SLC or live here. Make the trip! I highly recommend their Daredevil, Chai Tea, and Super Saiyan drinks! They are located at 1588 South State St Salt Lake City, UT 84115
